Fire compartmentation divides a building into fire-resisting zones. When it works, a fire is held in the compartment where it starts, giving occupants time to escape and protecting the rest of the building. When it is breached, fire and smoke can spread quickly and unseen.
Finding the weak points
Over the life of a building, compartment walls and floors are regularly breached by new services, alterations and maintenance work. We carry out compartmentation surveys on new and existing buildings to map the fire-resisting construction, identify breaches and non-compliant details, and prioritise what needs fixing.
Restoring compartment lines
- Sealing service penetrations and linear gaps in fire-resisting walls and floors.
- Upgrading or building new fire-resisting partitions where required.
- Closing voids and cavities that bypass compartment lines.
- Making sure fire doors, dampers and barriers tie in correctly with the walls around them.
A complete, joined-up system
Compartmentation only works if every element is continuous and correctly rated. Because we also carry out fire stopping, cavity barriers, fire barriers and fire doors, we can deliver the whole package and make sure there are no gaps between trades.
Clear records for duty holders
All remedial work is photographed, located and documented, with labelling where required. That gives building control, fire risk assessors, insurers and responsible persons clear evidence that the compartmentation is robust and traceable.
